Zamani Islands
Killa Design
Spanning a 5km natural lagoon and comprising eight islands, Zamani Islands is set to become the Maldives’ first 100% renewable energy resort. Located 21 nautical miles from the main international airport, this groundbreaking project will host three individual luxury resorts, each committed to sustainability without compromising luxury. “Maldives’ first 100% renewable-energy powered resort”. The design of Zamani Islands draws inspiration from the natural formations of the lagoon atolls. Shaped by environmental factors such as wind, waves, and tidal currents, the islands integrate seamlessly with their surroundings. This design maximizes beach access and offers panoramic views of the lagoons and horizon, blending nature with luxury resort experiences. “Creating a harmony between nature and luxury”. Killa Design, known for its expertise in zero energy, water, and waste, ultra-luxury resorts, partners with Atoll Estates to realize Zamani Islands’ vision of a 100% renewable energy-powered resort. This collaboration aims to set new global benchmarks for eco-friendly luxury hospitality, with every aspect of the resort designed to minimise environmental impact while providing unparalleled luxury. “Every element is crafted to minimise environmental impact". The owners aimed to create a unique hospitality destination distinguished by its design and guest experiences. Killa Design’s approach addresses the challenges of offshore construction by using advanced building technologies and modular methods. This ensures high quality and durability, using regionally available materials like reclaimed timber, bamboo, and recycled aluminum, reducing the resort’s carbon footprint. Killa Design employed cutting-edge BIM software to model every aspect of the resort and surrounding islands. This detailed planning facilitated an immersive virtual reality experience for the owners, ensuring precise material and component selection. This precision reduces waste and costs while enhancing construction efficiency on the remote Zamani Islands. Parametric and regenerative software further optimized design elements, enhancing buildability and creating memorable guest experiences. Biophilic elements like greenspaces, natural light, and ventilation systems not only enhance guests’ well-being but also reduce energy consumption. “Killa Design used cutting edge BIM software to meticulously model every aspect of the resort and surrounding islands.” Zamani Islands’ approach to sustainability extends beyond renewable energy. The resort uses Building Integrated Photo-Voltaic (BIPV) systems to harness solar energy efficiently whilst maintaining aesthetic appeal. The resort’s holistic vision includes selecting materials conscientiously, implementing Agri-Photovoltaics, and indoor farming to minimize environmental impact while nurturing local ecosystems. Killa Design is proud to contribute to creating a future benchmark for ecotourism with Zamani Islands. This project aims to inspire sustainable resort developments globally, establishing new standards for environmentally conscious hospitality. By educating guests about sustainability, Zamani Islands hopes to encourage more eco-friendly choices in vacation destinations and daily life. “Setting a new standard for environmentally conscious hospitality.” Zamani Islands redefine luxury and sustainability, merging eco-friendly practices with opulent experiences. By prioritizing renewable energy and innovative design, the resort minimizes its environmental footprint while setting new benchmarks for sustainable luxury. Zamani Islands exemplify how luxury and sustainability can coexist, paving the way for future developments in the Maldives and beyond.
