Pentre Awel

Arup

Pentre Awel is a pioneering development by Carmarthenshire Council which will provide world-class medical research and community healthcare delivery together with business incubation for life sciences businesses, higher education for healthcare professionals and wet and dry leisure facilities open to the whole community. The project’s ambition is to transform health and wellbeing outcomes for the Llanelli community throughout the five life stages set out in the Welsh Government’s Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, whilst also addressing the UK Government’s post-covid ‘levelling up’ agenda in a community challenged by longstanding high levels of unemployment and chronic health conditions

The Health and Wellbeing Hub which forms the first phase of development, due for completion in 2024, integrates a unique breadth of activities within a single building, bringing together diverse user groups under one roof. The various elements of the brief enclose a generous internal ‘street’ which will offer a new community ‘heart’ where staff, students, patients and visitors can engage, wait, work and relax. The incorporation of leisure facilities within the building will encourage social prescribing and access to meeting rooms and common areas within the building will enable support groups to convene. The new landscaped park with stunning views across the Loughor Estuary will encourage people to get outside and be active.
